{Sun, Feb 2724, '11}   Grammar

I think this is my first post of the year… It’s nearly march, huh? Oopsies.

So grammar. Can we use fragments like that?

And can we start sentences with conjunctions?

Or should I use “may” instead of “can?”

Till or ’til?

I’ve had a lot of grammar questions over the years (bless my English teachers for putting up with me), but some recent discussions (with said English teachers) have sparked up some confusion in the basics.

When a character is speaking (dialogue), rules can (may?) often be bent, but how far? In a teenage voice, it’s acceptable to say “it’s okay,” as opposed to “it is alright,” but what about made-up words? “Going to,” or “gonna/gunna?” “I don’t know,” or “dunno?”

I think I’ve been tweeting too much… There’s no way I can write an entire blog post after so many 140-character summaries of my life.

{Wed, Feb 1737, '10}   #Hashtag

Anyone with a twitter account would know that most trending topics are in hashtag form, such as #beatcancer or #followfriday. Well, most users, myself included, would like to have the honor of creating a hashtag and having it become a trending topic. If I could create a trending hashtag, here would be my top choices:

  • #memories: Pretty self-explanatory. You post something sweet that brings you back through time. (IE “I remember the first time @davedays sent me an @reply … Aaaah, #memories .”)
  • #OlympicSport: Inspired by the Vancouver ’10 Winter Olympics. This pretty much lists some things people believe should be the next Olympic sport. (IE “The next #OlympicSport is singing! Go for it, @fromblueskies !”)
  • #DoYouKnow: Random things most people don’t know. Yeah, this is sort of like #OMGfacts , but it can apply to unusual objects, as well. (IE “#DoYouKnow what a euphonium is?”)
  • #DreamsComeTrue: Not necessarily for dreams that HAVE come true. This hashtag describes things you want to happen. (IE “I had a dream I knew @David_Garrett . Well… #DreamsComeTrue ?”)
  • #WordofAdvice: Pretty self-explanatory. Pretty much advice for any random person ro people. (IE “A #WordofAdvice for any rookie guitarists out there: Acoustic tastes better!”)
  • #twitteris: What is twitter to you? Why do you go on? (IE “#twitteris my way of saying what I want to say to the world.”)

{Sat, Jan 905, '10}   Fireworks

I love the Earth. I love nature. I love the world. I love this planet. I love the environment.

I don’t love fireworks.

Every time I see a fireworks show, I cover my nose and mouth so I don’t inhale the smoke. I wish I could cover my eyes so I wouldn’t have to SEE it, too.

All that smoke in the air…

So, anyways…

In terms of eco-friendly, I did NOT enjoy my Disney trips.

Everywhere I went, I heard, “save the animals,” “save the air,” “save our planet,” “save the water.”

How is the air safe? Daily firework displays are not helping the air. Just ask the bits of charcoal and ash that rained down on my head. That flew into my sister’s eyes. That got black smudges on my dad’s pastel shirt.

So here I am, typing words onto the screen of the laptop on my lap. Protesting. Ranting. Expressing.

{Sat, Jan 911, '10}   Disney Vs. McDonalds

The title of this post is somewhat a parody of this post.

Forget McDonalds; Disney is making America fat!

Giant turkey legs? Ice cream cones four times the size of a regular cone? Huge slushies? Plate-sized cookies? Junk food paradise or just plain junk?

I hope I don’t get in trouble for this…

As much as I like junk food, I find the amount of it served at various Disney parks to be disgusting. Everywhere I looked, there was someone stuffing their face with cholesterol and sugar.

At this point, I’m ready to side against Supersize Me.

Pointless post, I guess, but I like my opinion to be out there, so…

{Sat, Jan 931, '10}   Vacay Tweets

Here’s a quick post:

The entire time I was on vacation, I did not have internet access, so I was unable to tweet. Unlike the rest of the world, I do not have a working cell phone or a blackberry or an iTouch or a laptop. (Well, I have a NON-working phone and a suckish laptop…) I don’t know about anyone else, but whenever I do anything, I think up tweets… which doesn’t help unless I have internet access…

So, anyways, here are some thing I might have tweeted if I had the chance:

  • A little boy farted on me and a little girl wiped her hands on me. Fun fun.
  • The fireworks are so close… there’s ash raining down on my head…
  • Just recorded an entire parade. My arm hurts… 😦
  • Ewww, the water tastes like dentists’ water+lime+sulfur…
  • Uggh, I never thought I’d say this, but I’m sick of sweets…
  • I hate motels…
  • I went on a safari. Right as it started, my camera died. Nice…
  • Pirate mime!
  • I got a new shark-tooth necklace and a guitar tee! Whoo!
  • Soaking wet! OMG!

And, like, a HECK of a lot of others.

By the way, I’m a little ticked off because I lost quite a few followers during that two weeks, but I guess that’s to be expected.

{Thu, Jan 757, '10}   Davedays’s New Fan!

So while at Florida, I visited a friend. She’s in college and was home for winter vacation.

So she, my sister, and I started sharing funny youtube videos, and I showed her to Davedays.

Make note of this, Dave!

Her first reaction: “Heeey, he’s cute!”

Me: “Back off! He’s mine!”

Her: “Awww, how old is he?”

Me: “Like… 17-ish…”

Her: “Awww, he’s so young…”

Actually, this isn’t an exciting post, but Dave, you have a new fan(atic) thanks to me, soo…

CYA!

The title of this post is a reference to this post.

As you should know, it is now the year 2010, which brings the end to 2009. Funny. In my first draft, I wrote “not the year 2009” instead of “now.” At least I’m proofreading…

I spent a lovely winter vacation down in Florida. The only problem was that it was cold. At least, I though it was until I came back up north to the not-so-tropical weather. While there, I’ve been on quite a few “adventures.” I’d post about them here, but then I figure this post would be long and boring. Whenever I get free time to, I’ll add new posts about my trip to MTKR (MercyTheKitty Rants) about my trip and link them to this post:

{Mon, Oct 2659, '09}   Calix

Okay… So I’m sitting at home, doing homework, minding my own business. For the millionth time today, I decided to visit my good ol’ buddy, twitter dot com. I am currently following @dictionarycom because I like to read the words of the day. This is what I found on my homepage:

@dictionarycom post

I’m on this RPG site my friend created, and I decided to make a new character. While browsing for names on Babynames dot com, I found the name “Calix” and I liked it. That was just a few days ago.

The meaning of the name Calix is Very Handsome The origin of the name Calix is Greek

So… as a name, Calix means Very Handsome… but as a word, it means a chalice or a cup? So… Calix is a handsome cup?

Stupid coincidences.

In other, semi-related news, my sister and I started having a discussion about my guitar. She’s convinced I should name mine… I don’t really want to, because that’s just not how I roll. (I’m sorry, I was suddenly possessed and felt the need to say that…) Well, that’s my sunburst beauty down there:

My Guitar

I was in favor of the name Calix, because it sounds so perfectly guitar-ish, right? But my sister seems to have this weird obsession with the Greek and Roman gods, so she INSISTED on the names Diana, Minerva, and Athena. I still like Calix.

Although I have about a whole 0 views on this site, here’s a poll for you guys:

I’m hoping that worked… Anyways, if you don’t like Athena/Minerva/Diana, or you have a different name for me, feel free to comment below.

Vote for CALIX!

Sorry for all the media on this post… I just figured out how to do that… XD

Ciao!

Note, 10-14-10: I get so much spam on this post… WHY!??! I just started deleting it…

Note, 11-2-10: Now my spam has become almost generic, “this isn’t spam” comments. Strangely enough, these comments seem to appear on days when I have no blog views…

{Mon, Oct 1943, '09}   #BeatCancer

For the past week or so, #beatcancer has been a trending topic on twitter. Apparently, “eBay/Paypal and MillerCoors are donating a cent per hashtag (via tweet, Facebook update, or blog post). The campaign is aiming for a Guinness World Record “for the distribution of the largest mass message through social media” in one day.” I’d just like to mention that I love these kinds of things (sort of), so I am here to post #beatcancer on this obvious BLOG POST. So, please spread this message on and help fight cancer. (Tell ’em Mercy sent you! :D) That’s about it.

Ciao!
